About this tour
Tromsø Northern Lights Small Group Tour
The Northern Lights are one of nature’s most spectacular phenomena, and Tromsø is one of the best places in the world to experience them. Located beneath the Auroral Oval, the region offers excellent opportunities to witness the Aurora Borealis from September to April.
Our Tromsø Northern Lights Small Group Tour is designed for travelers who prefer a more personal and comfortable experience. Instead of joining a large bus with dozens of guests, you’ll travel in a small group led by knowledgeable local guides who are passionate about the Arctic.
Every evening is different. We carefully analyze weather forecasts, cloud coverage, and aurora activity before choosing the best route. Sometimes that means exploring nearby fjords, while other nights we may travel far inland in search of clear skies.
Throughout the evening, our guides share stories about Arctic life, local culture, and the science behind the Northern Lights. When conditions allow, we stop for hot drinks, snacks, and a cozy campfire while waiting for the aurora to appear.
And when the sky lights up, you’ll have plenty of space to enjoy the moment away from crowded groups.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you guarantee Northern Lights sightings?
No company can guarantee Aurora Borealis sightings because the phenomenon depends on nature. However, Tromsø is one of the world’s best locations for Northern Lights viewing, and our guides actively chase clear skies to maximize your chances.
What happens if the weather is cloudy?
Our guides often drive far from Tromsø in search of clear skies. Depending on weather conditions, we may travel to different areas of Northern Norway or even close to the Finnish border if necessary.
How long does the Northern Lights tour last?
Most tours last between 6 and 8 hours, depending on weather conditions, road conditions, and how far we need to travel to find clear skies.
How many people are in the group?
Our tours operate with small groups of up to 18 people, creating a more personal experience than large coach tours.
Are professional photos included?
Yes. Our guides take photos during the tour and share them with guests afterward.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes, although we generally recommend it for children aged 6 and above due to the late hours and Arctic temperatures.
What should I wear?
We recommend warm winter clothing, gloves, hat and insulated footwear.
Is the tour wheelchair accessible?
No
Will we travel to Finland?
Possibly. Our route is determined by weather and cloud forecasts. If necessary, we may travel far from Tromsø in search of clear skies.
